What We Believe

bastrop church

We believe that faith and your faith journey starts with Jesus – understanding who He is, what He’s done, and what that means for us. We would love to talk more about faith or answer any questions about what we believe! Just reach out to one of our Elders: Oran Isbell at oran_isbell@yahoo.com or David Waldron at dwaldron1963@gmail.com

There is one true and living God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We worship and praise the Father who spoke the world into existence; Jesus, the Son, who died upon the cross to redeem us from sin; and the Holy Spirit who is the seal of our salvation.

(Matthew 28:19, John 16:8-13)

Jesus, the Son of God, is our one and only Lord and Messiah. He was crucified, died, and rose from the dead. In this, he conquered death, and offered forgiveness of sins to humanity. The cornerstone of our faith is our belief in Jesus Christ. Everything we hold dear in our faith originates from his words and his way of life.

(John 1:1-4, John 3:16, John 12:47-48, John 14:6, Acts 2:22-24, 1 John 2:5-6)

The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is sharp, powerful, effective, challenging, exposing, and encouraging when it is revered, studied, preached, taught, and obeyed because it is from our Creator and therefore relevant for all generations.

(1 Timothy 4:16, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12-13, 2 Peter 1:19-21)

A person is saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. This faith responds to God’s gift of salvation through repentance and baptism—where we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection—and continues in a life of faithful obedience empowered by the Spirit.

(Luke 9:23-25, Luke 14:25-33, Acts 2:36-41, Romans 3:23-25, Romans 6:20-23, Ephesians 2:8-10, Colossians 2:11-12, James 1:12, James 2:14-26)

The greatest command in the Bible is, as Jesus stated, to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to love your neighbor as yourself. Our purpose is to know God and to glorify him as God, and let our life shine so others will see God. Our devotion and ultimate loyalties are to the Father, who is over all and in all and through all; to Jesus the Son, who has been declared both Lord and Christ; and to the Holy Spirit, who lives in us and empowers us to overcome the workings of the sinful nature

(Matthew 22:37-39, Acts 2:22-36, Romans 8:12-28)

The Church Community reflects our commitment to the sharing in Fellowship and of the strengthening of our community. As members of the body of Christ, we commit to living as the family of God—a community devoted to helping one another grow in Christlikeness.

(Acts 2:42-47, Colossians 1:15-18, Ephesians 4:1-6)

Our earthly mission involves every member’s participation in the Great Commission to “Seek and save what was lost,” in bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to all parts of the world.

In imitation of Jesus’ mission, we are also committed to remembering the poor and to serve those who are in need.

(Acts 20:35, Galatians 2:10, James 1:27)

Our corporate worship centers on devotion to God’s Word, prayer, fellowship, and the Lord’s Supper, as we gather weekly to break bread and share the cup in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice.

(Acts 2:42-47)

As a community imitating our brothers and sisters in the first century, we give a willing sacrifice to God as a fragrant offering and a sign of our thankfulness. Since everything we enjoy in life is a gift from God, we agree to cheerfully and sacrificially contribute our time and finances to the church so that the ministry of Jesus will advance throughout our communities and around the world.

(2 Corinthians 9:6-7)

We affirm the vital role of women in teaching, training, and serving within the fellowship and corporate worship, recognizing their gifts and influence in the life of the church.

(Acts 18:24-26, Romans 16:1-15, Titus 2:3-4)
